The above view  is taken of Oban Town, from the  The Colosseum-like structure of  McCaig’s Tower.  The view looks out onto the various Isles in the distance. Below is a plaque which shows you the Isles,to which the ferries travel back and forth, to Mull, and other islands, sorry the focus is out on the one below.

Oban means ‘The Little Bay’ It is from here you take the ferries to Mull, and other islands.  I took these photos from this advantage point. The McCaig’s Tower. Which stands high above the town

John Stuart McCaig (1824 – 1902) commissioned the build  over a five year period from 1895 until his death in 1902. You can find out why it was built by opening the link.

    • Yes, I bet it is a Sun trap in Summer.. But the day blue in a chill wind. and was quiet windy up there. 🙂 And I loved the children’s book The Secret Garden, so walled gardens have always held their magic for me.. Thank You Holly xx

  1. Oban means ‘The Little Bay’ Reminds me of the Oban inn in Niagara on the Lake in Ontario Canada near my home town. Makes sense now that the inn almost sits on water. Lovely structure that looks like the Colosseum. Thank you for the tour. Be well and stay smiling

  2. What a lovely trip Sue. Thank you for sharing it with us all. I will likely never go to visit my great grandparents original home but I can at least see the country where they were born in this lovely post 🙂

  3. Hello Sue — Thanks for sharing this tour (tor) with us. I’m glad they have restored the garden and given respect to the monument that was built with love and dedication so long ago. I hope to post again soon. It’s time for my year summary and projections for next year — new theme and all for 2018. I am still not in the “dormant season.” Making Christmas gifts to ship early next week in time for them to arrive and my loved ones homes before the Big Day. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, Dear Friend, Alia
