Dear followers,
Another month has already flown, and its been one of the driest here in England for a long while. We had a water hose-pipe ban in place, as some reservoirs began to dry up, We had a weekend of none stop much welcome rain this weekend accompanied by some strong wind gusts. The rain gave hubby a much deserved rest from carrying watering cans of water two and fro to water our crops in the allotment. He had to go tie up the sweetcorn and my Dahlias have taken a bit of a battering. But I forgot to take my camera with me to take photos.
One good thing about the dry spell, the weeds have not been growing as prolific as usual. So that has saved my back a little. 🙂
While hubby has been doing two hours of watering early every morning I have been picking berries and peas, then the task of cleaning and freezing them. We had a bit of a disaster as one of our freezers we had still some of last years sweetcorn stored and many pounds of berries I had frozen this year, broke down. We didn’t notice right away as the freezer is in the garage. With all the heat of this summer, it wasn’t long before everything was mush.. All had to be thrown out.
But you win some and you lose some, just one of those things, good thing I kept the nets over the red currents as I was going to leave the rest for the birds, but I forgot to take the nets down, and there were soon plenty more redcurrants that ripened. These photos show what was gathered on two different early morning picking.
I have been giving my self some lengthy breaks from WP both here and on my main blog. I have been painting my fences around my home garden, and we also last week painted both sheds in the allotment, We went early to beat the heat. As by 10 am on some days it was too hot for me at least to be working in it.
I also did some different painting, our old bird feeder must have been 15 yrs old, it finally looked worse for wear.. So my hubby made me a new one. I painted it and added some decoration on it then varnished it. So it should I hope last another 15 yr as hubby build the last one.
Now over the winter when we are digging and hoeing we often come across bits of old Clay Smoking Pipes, click the link to see some history about them. Well we often find the odd broken and stem and recently I found several bowls.. Along with pieces of broken crockery. Also found a tooth, Not sure if its animal or human, hubby seems to think it could be a foxes, Anyway the tooth is on the right.
It is interesting to think who tilled the land before we did, and ponder upon their lives.
I will leave you with some pictures of our some shady spots in our home garden and some more pictures of our hedgehogs, we have several now from babies to adults that come visit and now sleep in our hedgehog box.. So hope that some decide to use it to hibernate over winter in it. ( Ignore the dates on some of them as the web camera needs to be reset, I forget when we recharge the batteries )
Hope you are all enjoying your Summer. Much love to you all.
Happy Gardening
Sue

Hi, Sue!! So good to see you at WP. I’ve been hit and miss too. This summer has been extremely busy for me. Your gardens are so beautiful and I wish mine would look like that. I’ve been working on filling them in to achieve the textured “filled in” look. I’m getting there. (smile) LOVED your birdhouse. You are just so talented. Harvest time has begun and I can just imagine your scrumptious satisfaction as you eat the fruits of your labors. I’ve had to do a lot of watering as well with some days finding me playing “chasing the hose”. I hope your summer has been a good one. As always, it is so good to visit with you here. Much Love to you and happy gardening and eating. (smile) 😘

Hi Dear Amy, so happy you hopped over and read what I have been up to.. Yes I think its time we put ourselves First for a change don’t you 🙂 and I have been getting lots of things completed, and started 🙂
I still feel like I am in a bit of a fog haze as there is so much I want to share, yet the words of what I want to say will not come.. So I am honouring that its not yet time to share. But I will, 🙂
I know how busy our gardening is and what it takes out of us, let alone all the other things you do Amy.
Enjoy your Summer and hope the rains sprinkle some goodness onto your lands.. I have been sending thoughts out where the fires have been both in USA and Greece.. We had a moorland fire and surprised some of our ancient woodlands did not go up, as its never been this dry in decades.
Much love returned Amy.. And look forward to catching you back up again too. ❤

I’ve been rather quiet on the “words”, Sue, and for some reason I don’t question it. I’m just so involved in experiencing the moment and discovering adventures in my own backyard and in the parks I frequent. I forgot to comment on how incredible you are finding pieces of pipes and pottery in your soil. How cool! All I find are rocks and stones. LOL You sound like you are in a good space …. wonderful!!! BIG HUGS!

Yes we keep flowing Amy with how we feel and when we honour the flow, we stay within it.. And yes.. I am in a Very Good place at the moment. As for the pipes, I love to find these pieces and I have a little box that my granddaughter and I call our treasure box.. She is often asking me what treasure I have found.
Nature is the best treasure of them all.
Much love back and Keep in your own Good space too Amy.. ❤

The heat is breaking here, finally. I plan on painting chicken coops on Thursday. It will feel good to do something constructive without sweating profusely. 🙂 Thanks for the tour of your area….very nice. And it is always very nice to hear from you, Sue! Have a spectacular week!

Summers are hard on blogging. So much work to do and it’s been hot and dry here as well. I have to go out at dawn and work. Weather just keeps getting stranger by the day. You have been busy indeed and loved seeing some of the changes to your allotment. Painting always takes lots of time. I’m hoping fall is long and cool. Maybe I’ll catch up.I think anyone with half a brain understands that you have to take care of priorities. Enjoy your time in the garden. We are there with you. 😉 Hugs, M

Bless you Marlene, and yes we have been in the allotment before 6am some mornings to try to beat the heat.. I feel for you and those countries where rain fall is scarce.. We normally have more than our fair share of rain..
But the weather and environment is changing ( Not ALL due to climate change ) either as I have discovered. But nothing we can do about Natural Cycles of Planets now is there 😀 so not to worry on that one. What will be will be, and we need to enjoy our Now moments in nature while we are able.. 100%…
Thank you dear Marlene, Take care of you xx ❤

I am glad to hear you are now getting rain, Sue. The UK is not well prepared for no rain at all. Sorry about your freezer, that has happened to us too. You will be having red current pies instead. Have a lovely evening. Hugs.

Agreed Robbie, Good thing the blackberries now ready for picking.. Yes the freezer just one of those things, nothing to be done, So let it go.. Just a lot of work went into those berries.. But if no one takes our apples, we will have some good pies in the autumn and winter lol..
Lovely that you hopped over Robbie, thank you.. Much love back.. ❤

Ah, the energy of green Sue. Nature is most certainly a rebuilder, leaving us tired but better for it. Even your bird feeder has had its rebuild 😀
And I am glad you have finally had some rain, our farmers out west haven’t had a drop for so long that it has become a dust bowl, even to the point of having to put down all of their stock. It is a tragedy to see but hopefully some rain will come along for the rebuilt out there too 😀

I heard the same happened in Sweden to some of their live stock too Mark.. Perhaps Insects on the menu are not so far off in the future!! after all.
I do not know how Australia copes and other arid dry places on earth..
Never have I welcomed the rain more. And the birds were looking exhausted too.. We kept the bird baths topped up and they were in it every morning and afternoon. both drinking and bathing. I felt for their chicks in the nests..
But its been a good summer for them, Some have had several broods in our bushes and trees, And to have baby hedgehogs also a bonus. 🙂 Many thanks Mark 🙂 Have a great rest of the week

Wowza Sue! You’ve been a busy bee and just what you needed! I’m sorry about the food gone bad because of the heat, but hey, less weeds right? Lol. And wow, you found those pipes and a tooth will digging soil? Unreal!
Keep doing what fills your soul my friend, you’re better off for it. ❤ ❤ Hugs!

Big BIG smiles and HUGS to you Debby, thank you, Yes so enjoying this summer, despite the constant watering and heat which we are not used to here in England.. Some days I have just Wilted into a puddle.. LOL..
I will have some deeper writings to share soon.. I wrote a couple of poems the other night when I couldn’t sleep.. Then found out the electromagnetic energies were unusually High, so explains no sleep.
One thing my time out has given me, time to reflect, Listen more to inner guidance and make sense of Hopi Prophecies. Lots running around in my grey matter, and waiting for the words to flow..
When they come I will be sharing them..
Love and Mega Hugs and thank you for your constant support Debby, when I miss so many of your own posts. ❤

Thank you and now that I have overcome some angst in creating art with a four legged being, I might yet try it again. Enjoy your picnic with granddaughter. What is a “Farm Park”? My own adult granddaughter has taken her own two little girls to a petting zoo type place of which the 2yr old loves. Here in WA, when my own children were small, we would go on car picnics due to the constant inclement weather. Be well. 😉

Sounds very similar Renee.. Goats, sheep, Lamas can be hand fed with pellets etc.. young lambs and goats with bottles.. There are small animals chicks, mice and guinea pigs that can be hand held and petted.. A reptile house too with exotic things such as snakes spiders lizards, and giant tortoises.. Meerkats too , Cows and Pigs.. And rides and adventure climbing too.. We had a wonderful Day Renee.. and Grandma and Granddad slept sound that night.. 🙂

Hi Derrick, yes we had some nasty gusts of wind, I have been in the allotment this morning tying up my Dahlias, Some snapped off. And the hanging baskets still have to be put back, as we took them down as they were getting a buffeting from the wind and rain.
Its freshened things up a little, until our next heat wave for later this week.
Sending hugs your way Derrick

Indeed Eguenia, We had a wonderful Day on Thursday with our granddaughter at a farm park all day.. Yesterday a little sadder as a funeral to attend of a friend..
This morning we have been cutting the conifers into shape and taking the top off our magnolia which had just leapt up this year..
Now feet up for five minutes while I try to catch up again here.. Busy Busy, sometimes I wonder how I found time to go to work?? 😀 But I wouldn’t change a second. ❤ x

Loved all the photos, Sue, especially your adorable bird house and the hedgehogs! Glad you got some rain, too. It’s been hot here, also, which isn’t helping with the many, many Calif. wildfires. Scary times and so tragic learning of the deaths. Anyway, keep planting and harvesting and taking time for you! Hugs! 💕💕

Dear Sue, thanks for letting us visit your garden. I enjoyed seeing the fruits of your labor — and I love the birdhouse. Interesting the things you dug up.
While you’re in a drought, we have flood warnings almost daily. I’m thankful to be on high ground. And yesterday, my phone’s weather alert gave me a “Falling Trees Alert.” If only we could share some rain with you…
Hugs on the wing.

Thank you dear Teagan.. Normally it is we who have more than enough rain to go around.. This drought is now causing farmers serious problems as the grass is not growing and is dried out.. So the animals are being fed the winter feed in store for the winter..
If it carries on some farmers say they may have to put their animals to slaughter. In some places in Europe this weekend such as Spain and Portugal temperatures are set to soar to 48C.. Even the locals there are not going outdoors its far too hot..
Seems the weather patterns are drastically changing.. We all need to be ‘Alert’ to these changes..
So pleased to hear you are on high ground… We too live on a hill, so when other places get flooded we are always ok.. We are very fortunate in many respects.
Take care dear friend, and enjoy your weekend.. ❤

Hi Sue, it’s lovely to see what you’ve been up to. Glad you had some rain as a bit of relief from that dry spell. Here it’s been cold and wet and consequently the weeds in my garden are prolific. Time to get outside again, think a day in the garden might be caked for shortly. Wishing you abundance, sunshine and rain, all things in balance. Love and hugs xx 💚

I think the weather world wide has been in constant flux and change Miriam.. At least here while we have had no rain the weeds have not been growing either, so that is a bonus.. Keeping on top of them is always a battle..
I hope your weather settles into a more even keel as your seasons progress.. Gardening for me is always therapeutic.. and after a long Winter I couldn’t wait to get my hands in the earth again.. I am sure it will not be long before your own garden is ship shape again..
Much love returned dear Miriam.. Hugs and Love ❤
